Swallowing liquid and solid food from 6 children with SMA type II and 6 healthy children from 6 to 13 years was studied using surface EMG of the submental muscle group and a video fluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS). The MFM was used to assess the sitting position, the arm function and head and neck control in SMA patients.
