Objectives of the study were to describe abnormalities of kinematics, kinetics, energy cost and EMF in patients with myotonic muscular dystrophy (DM1) and to observe the links between abnormal muscle activity and gait impairment.
Results show correlations of MFM with AROMr (ankle range of motion ratio) or the first extension moment of the knee (Mz knee) and a negative correlation with the duration of the gastrocnemius lateralis activation. Gait abnormalities in DM1 seemed to be related to weakness and abnormal muscle activation of the calf.
